HHS Opens Up Medicare Enrollment to Same-Sex Couples
Last week, HHS announced that same-sex married couples soon will be able to qualify for Medicare hospital and physician benefits and that the department will work with the Social Security Administration to process their requests during Medicare's special enrollment periods. The announcement stems from a June 2013 Supreme Court decision that struck down part of the Defense of Marriage Act.
