HHSA Official To Serve as Temporary State Finance Director
Michael Genest, undersecretary of the Health and Human Services Agency, temporarily will serve as state finance director while current Finance Director Tom Campbell takes a two-month leave of absence to campaign for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) ballot measures, the Sacramento Bee reports. Measures for the Nov. 8 special election Campbell will campaign for include those addressing the state budget and redistricting. Campbell announced his unpaid leave of absence on Wednesday.
Genest has served in the Department of Social Services and also was serving as acting director of support services for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Campbell will return to the Department of Finance following the November special election but in November also will return to his position as dean of the Haas School of Business at the University of California-Berkeley, according to a department spokesperson (Furillo, Sacramento Bee, 9/8).
