HMO Patient Guide to Be Released Online
The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, a Santa Monica-based consumer advocacy group, will release a guide for managed care patients explaining provisions of California's HMO reform laws scheduled to take effect Jan. 1. The laws give patients the right to sue HMOs and to receive independent reviews of HMO decisions denying treatment. FTCR's Andrew Pontious said, "This guide's explanations of the new California health care laws will help [patients] to better understand what rights and remedies are available to them." The guide will be available online at http://www.calpatientguide.org by Jan. 1 (FTCR release, 12/20).
