Hospital District Deal Will Establish Heart Center, IT System
The Valley Health System hospital district board on Monday approved a proposal to sell a portion of its property in Hemet to build a heart surgery center and a second proposal to develop an information technology system for the districts' hospitals, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reports. Both proposals will be developed with Kali Chaudhuri, a business partner of the district.
Under the heart surgery center proposal, the district would sell three acres of land to Chaudhuri, who would build and equip the center. The hospital district would lease the center by Jan. 15, 2011, according to the agreement.
The second proposal would link hospital medical records with patient records at Hemet Community Medical Group and Menifee Valley Community Medical Group. Under the 15-year agreement, the medical groups would loan the district $5 million to purchase computer equipment and software. The loans would be repaid using federal Medicare funds given to health systems that provide more detailed patient data.
Details of the two plans are still being discussed (Beeman, Riverside Press-Enterprise, 3/27).
