HOSPITAL STAYS: Coburn Bill Would Let Physicians Decide
Rep. Tom Coburn (R-OK) has reintroduced legislation that would require insurers to cover hospital stays as long as a doctor deems medically necessary. Coburn said, "As a practicing physician, I don't need a nonmedical professional telling me when patients are ready to go home." The measure is co-sponsored by Rep. Ted Strickland (D-OH), and a similar version is pending in the Senate (Tulsa World, 3/5).
