Hospitals Benefit by Adopting Information Technology, Report Finds
Although the "reality of the digital hospital is still two to five years away," several hospitals across the nation are moving toward digital hospitals, either with entirely new facilities or by transforming individual departments within their facilities, according to a new report from First Consulting Group commissioned by the California HealthCare Foundation (Drazen/Fortin, "Digital Hospitals Move Off the Drawing Board," October 2003). The report, which provided case studies of 11 hospitals' information technology projects, concluded that "strong leadership, exploring a wide range of possibilities, staff training, and solid vendor partnerships and user partnerships" characterized successful efforts to improve efficiency through the use of IT (CHCF release, 10/17). The report is available online.
