Hospitals Receive Safety Award

Twenty-two California hospitals have received an Excellence in Patient Safety & Health Care Quality Award, the Sacramento Bee reports.

The results are based on a Leapfrog Group hospital quality and safety survey (Le, Sacramento Bee, 5/3). The survey measured four quality-of-care standards, including:

• Computer physician order entry;
  
  
• Evidence-based hospital referral;
  
  
• Intensive care unit staffing; and
  
  
• The Leapfrog Safe Practices Score, which includes 27 practices to reduce medical errors.
