Hospitals Receive Safety Award
Twenty-two California hospitals have received an Excellence in Patient Safety & Health Care Quality Award, the Sacramento Bee reports.
The results are based on a Leapfrog Group hospital quality and safety survey (Le, Sacramento Bee, 5/3). The survey measured four quality-of-care standards, including:
- Computer physician order entry;
- Evidence-based hospital referral;
- Intensive care unit staffing; and
- The Leapfrog Safe Practices Score, which includes 27 practices to reduce medical errors.
The 22 hospitals are among the top 10% of 216 California hospitals that responded to the survey (Leapfrog Group release, 5/3).
Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Cigna HealthCare of California and UnitedHealthcare sponsored the award (Sacramento Bee, 5/3). This is part of the California Healthline Daily Edition, a summary of health policy coverage from major news organizations. Sign up for an email subscription.
