HUMANA: Rated Best in Disease Management
Humana Inc. has been rated as the nation's best HMO for disease management services by Disease Management News. In addition, the survey co-sponsored by Disease Management News and the consulting firm CSC Healthcare/APM also placed Humana first in the category of vendor-HMO partnerships. Al Lewis, director of the Disease Management Purchasing Consortium, which conducted the study, said a variety of factors led to Humana's ranking, including the number of members covered, the comprehensiveness of the company's disease management programs, cost, the ability to implement disease management in all markets and the reputation of the vendors with which the HMO contracts. Humana's disease management service was also commended for its market compliance. According to Human, it has a 90% market compliance rate with corporate-sponsored disease- management programs, compared to other plans' 40% to 60% rate. "We are gratified to be recognized as the industry leader in this field. We look forward to continuing to enhance our ability to apply organized approaches to improving health care and service for our chronically ill members," said Dr. Jerry Reeves, Humana's chief medical officer (release, 2/8).This is part of the California Healthline Daily Edition, a summary of health policy coverage from major news organizations.
