Illinois Law Requires Hospitals, Surgery Centers To Report Cost, Outcomes Data
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) on Tuesday signed into law a bill that will require hospitals and surgery centers to report to the state the cost of outpatient procedures and some outcomes data, the Chicago Tribune reports. Under the law, the state will report the average charges for 30 outpatient procedures.
The information will be added to the state Public Health Department Web site beginning in January 2007, according to an agency official. The site also will report information about surgical infections, complications and mortality rates.
Four other states have laws requiring information on surgical procedures performed within state borders to be published, sponsors of the law said (Parsons, Chicago Tribune, 6/15).
