INSURANCE COVERAGE: Bishop Says State-Run Programs Aren’t The Answer
Writing in the Wall Street Journal/California Edition, former State Corporations Commissioner Keith Bishop writes that while the state's "Healthy Families program is running into problems, it should not be the least bit surprising to those with even a passing familiarity with government programs." He says "the implementation problems experienced by Healthy Families vividly illustrate why government programs are not the best answer." Bishop says that "[i]nstead, legislators should focus on making private health care coverage affordable" by doing away with costly mandates, "level[ing] the playing field between employer and individually purchased health care coverage," and "pay[ing] attention to the costs associated with health care legislation" (4/15).
