J. David Gladstone Institutes to Build New San Francisco Facility
The J. David Gladstone Institutes, affiliated with the University of California-San Francisco, is planning to build a 185,000-square-foot research facility south of Pacific Bell Park in 2004, the AP/Contra Costa Times reports. Richard Hille, director of the 22-year-old not-for-profit organization, which conducts research on cardiovascular disease, virology and immunology and neurological disease, said that the new six-story building will join a 43-acre UCSF research campus. He added that the institutes will "double their work force to 500 within 10 years." The AP/Times reports that Gladstone will use state bonds to pay for $15 million in building costs and land from Catellus Development Corp (Wasserman, AP/Contra Costa Times, 11/1).This is part of the California Healthline Daily Edition, a summary of health policy coverage from major news organizations.
