Judge Reviews Possible Injunction To Block UC Nurses From Striking
On Friday, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Peter Busch is scheduled to hold a hearing on whether to issue an injunction that would prevent about 11,000 University of California nurses from holding a strike over staffing concerns, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Last week, Busch issued a temporary restraining order that blocked a one-day nurses' strike because of public safety concerns. The injunction would prohibit the nurses from rescheduling the strike.
Busch is likely to base his final decision on whether the nurses' current contract gives them the right to strike.
The nurses have argued that their contract authorizes them to suspend a no-strike clause if they fail to reach agreement on certain issues, such as staffing levels (Colliver, San Francisco Chronicle, 6/18).
