KCET’s ‘Life & Times’ Profiles East Los Angeles Health Clinic That Provides Free Care to Children, Families
KCET's "Life & Times" on Monday profiled the St. John's Well Child and Family Center, which opened last June in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of East Los Angeles and provides free health care to children and families. KCET reports that the Well Child and Family Center is one of a network of six St. John's clinics serving more than 40,000 families annually. Clinic Executive Director Jim Mangia said, "We're in a health care crisis in Los Angeles and not the federal nor the state nor the county government is talking about serious efforts to change that crisis, so it's up to community clinics like this and private foundations and individual donations to really change the dynamic of community health." The segment also includes comments from clinic pediatrician Dr. Linda Tigner-Weeks (Zavala, "Life & Times," KCET, 9/22). The full transcript of the segment is available online. In addition, the segment is available online in RealPlayer.
