L.A. City Attorney Asks Blue Cross To Verify Recent Policy Changes
Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo is asking Blue Cross of California to substantiate its claims that it is changing its process for canceling members' coverage, the AP/San Francisco Chronicle reports.
In a release issued on February 23, Blue Cross said it was developing a third-party review process to consider cases of coverage cancellation.
Delgadillo said that the release seemed intended to boost the company's corporate image and that Blue Cross must demonstrate that its claims are true. He said, "In all of our dealings with the health insurance industry, our experience would lead me to have little or no confidence that the claims made by Blue Cross on February 23 are accurate."
The city attorney's office also has asked Blue Cross for proof that it is simplifying its application process and other claims.
Blue Cross has 21 days to respond to the requests (AP/San Francisco Chronicle, 3/3).
