L.A. County Offers Meningitis Vaccines to Certain Residents
On Wednesday, Los Angeles County began offering no-cost meningitis vaccines to low-income and uninsured residents, amid concerns of a potential outbreak of the disease. Since November 2012, there have been 13 cases of meningitis and two meningitis-related deaths in the county. However, Jonathan Fielding -- Los Angeles County health officer -- said there is no evidence of an outbreak.
