LAGUNA HONDA: Feinstein Pledges Federal Aid
In the effort to keep Laguna Honda Hospital open, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D) has pledged $750,000 in federal funds to establish an assisted-living center at the financially strapped hospital. The Department of Veterans Affairs and Housing and Urban Development will also contribute funds, earmarked to establish 140 assisted-living units at the hospital. Specializing in long term care and rehabilitation, Laguna Honda supporters are hoping voters will approve a $299 million bond issue, necessary to rebuild the facility and meet the state's seismic and health standards (AP/ Contra Costa Times, 10/17).
