Latest Disclosures Push L.A. County To Mull Hospital Investigator
On Tuesday, Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina proposed creating a permanent, independent investigator position to monitor the county hospital and clinic system, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The board told county CEO William Fujioka to draft a proposal by next week outlining how the position would function.
The proposal comes amid disclosure that 11% of employees at Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital had undisclosed criminal records and that nurses at King-Harbor consistently scored lower on competency tests than nurses at other county medical facilities.
King-Harbor terminated inpatient services last year after federal investigators found that the facility was not meeting minimum patient care standards (Therolf, Los Angeles Times, 9/10).
