Leavitt, Others Hold Events To Promote Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit
HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt on Tuesday at events in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La., asked Medicare beneficiaries to enroll in the new prescription drug benefit as part of a nationwide campaign to promote the program, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports (Pope, New Orleans Times-Picayune, 8/24). He later held a similar event in Houston (Markley, Houston Chronicle, 8/24).
In addition, Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (R-Fla.) and Social Security Administration representatives on Tuesday held an information session on the Medicare prescription drug benefit in Beverly Hills, Fla. (Vadarevu, St. Petersburg Times, 8/24).
Meanwhile, former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) discussed the Medicare prescription drug benefit with the Florida Council on Aging at an event in Orlando, Fla. Since June, Dole has appeared at a number of events to promote the Medicare prescription drug benefit as part of a campaign sponsored by Pfizer (Nohlgren, St. Petersburg Times, 8/24). Dole plans to visit three additional cities as part of the six-city campaign (Reed, AP/South Florida Sun-Sentinel, 8/24).
