Local Groups To Address Health Problems
East Palo Alto city officials and local health agencies on Monday agreed to form a task force to address problems ranging from asthma to obesity, the San Jose Mercury News reports. The goal of the joint effort is to unite private and public groups to form a permanent health committee for the city.
Asthma, diabetes and obesity rates in East Palo Alto are among the highest in San Mateo County, according to county health officials.
Canopy, a not-for-profit group that will help address health issues, plans to plant 1,000 trees across the city in the next few years in an effort to help residents breathe easier and reduce asthma rates (Molina, San Jose Mercury News, 11/1).
