LOS ANGELES COUNTY: New Public Health Director To Be Appointed
Ending a "six-month nationwide search to fill the $166,000-a-year post," Dr. Robert Levin is expected to be named this week as Los Angeles County's "next public health officer," the Los Angeles Times reports. "If his appointment is approved at Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting," Dr. Levin, who is "chairman of the pediatrics department at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Chicago," will start "working part time next month and take over full time from interim director Dr. Richard Asby in late July or early August." Dr. Levin "will be responsible for enforcing local and state health regulations along with protecting the public from infectious disease outbreaks" (Gammon, 2/22).
