LOS MEDANOS: Judge Approves Hospital Lease Plan
Contra Costa County received approval yesterday from a federal bankruptcy judge to lease Los Medanos Community Hospital, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Contra Costa County wants to lease the 101-bed hospital, which went bankrupt four years ago, "for 20 years for a clinic and urgent care center." According to Andrea Porter, lawyer for the publicly- owned hospital district, the judge's ruling "means the fight over the hospital is nearly over," and the deal could be "concluded by the end of the summer." She said, "This is really one of the last difficult hurdles to us putting together a plan for the repayment of debts" (5/14).
