MANAGED CARE: Benefits Of Task Force Recommendations Illustrated
In today's Los Angeles Times, two leaders of the California Managed Care Task Force outline point by point the impact of their panel's patient protection provisions on a fictitious patient and physician, "Jane Doe" and "Dr. Smith." Alain Enthoven, the Stanford University health economist who chaired the task force, and Sara Singer, also of Stanford and a senior policy analyst for the task force, write, "Given the system that Jane Doe and Dr. Smith experience today, it is not surprising that they are dissatisfied. The recommendations sent to the governor and Legislature by the task force would take a giant step toward better health care for all Californians" (2/6).
