Medical School Will Study Racial, Ethnic Health Disparities
The Loma Linda University Medical School has opened a center to study racial and ethnic health disparities using an $8.3-million NIH grant, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The five-year grant also will provide funding to train doctors, for health education outreach and to finance a summer science training program for minority high school and college students.
The university is one of five institutions nationwide to receive a grant to study increased rates of diabetes, stroke and prostate, breast and pancreatic cancers among Latino and black populations (Los Angeles Times, 3/2).
