Medicare Drug Benefit
SB 503 by Sen. Liz Figueroa (D-Fremont) was amended to authorize DHS to reimburse pharmacies for Medicare prescription drug plan copayments for customers who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medi-Cal. The legislation would take effect Jan. 1, 2007. Originally, the measure addressed peer review requirements and the Board of Accountancy (Bill text, 6/22). The bill was rereferred to the Senate Rules Committee (Bill history, 6/26). Meanwhile, SB 558, also by Figueroa, was amended to establish the same reimbursement program as SB 503. The legislation originally addressed Healthy Families and Medi-Cal (Bill text, 6/26). The bill was rereferred to the Assembly Health Committee (Bill status, 6/27).
