MEDICARE FRAUD: Union Launches Counter-Offensive
The Oakland-based Union of American Physicians and Dentists has declared a "counter-offensive" campaign against the federal government's latest crack-down on Medicare fraud, which instructs elderly beneficiaries to report on their doctors if they think they're filing fraudulent claims. The San Francisco Business Journal reports that the union "plans to show doctors and patients how to use 'fraud-busting kits' against the government, in hopes that it will make it easier to file claims against the government for wrongfully rejecting treatments." UAPD President Dr. Robert Weinmann said, "The federal government is using witch-hunt tactics to drive a wedge between the sensitive patient-doctor relationship" (Bole, 3/15 issue).
