MEDPARTNERS: Settlement Withdrawn From Superior Court
State officials and Alabama-based MedPartners Inc. yesterday agreed to dismiss actions against each other in Los Angeles County Superior Court before a "skeptical" judge, stating their plan to file a settlement in bankruptcy court within a few days and abide by it as a contract in the meantime, the Orange County Register reports. The move follows Superior Court Judge Alan Buckner's refusal to approve the settlement last week. The current agreement guarantees "uninterrupted care for more than 1 million patients and payment of millions of dollars owed doctors and hospitals by MedPartners' financially troubled California subsidiary, MedPartners Provider Network Inc." Further details of the settlement were not available (6/17).
