MEDPARTNERS: To Sell Its Two Biggest Doctor Groups in CA
Riverside-based KPC Global Care, Inc. will buy MedPartners Inc.'s two largest doctor groups in the state, Mullikin Medical Group and Southern California Medical Corp., for an undisclosed amount, the Los Angeles Times reports. The groups include 65 clinics, more than 500 doctors and 511,000 patients -- representing 50% of MedPartners' California business. The transaction, which requires U.S. Bankruptcy Court approval, is part of MedPartners' effort to "shed its bankrupt state operations and exit the physician-group- management business." A pact to settle the case between state officials and the Alabama-based company is awaiting approval from the Bankruptcy Court, which could come as soon as today (6/16).This is part of the California Healthline Daily Edition, a summary of health policy coverage from major news organizations.
