Mendocino County Receives Grant To Fund Children’s Health Insurance Coverage
The Mendocino County Children's Health Initiative recently was awarded a $150,000 grant from the California HealthCare Foundation, the Ukiah Daily Journal reports.
The money will be used to fund most of 2006 the California Kids project, which provides health insurance for uninsured children who are ineligible for Medi-Cal and Healthy Families, according to Kristen Gardner, project coordinator of Health Insurance for All-Mendocino.
Gardner said there are at least 1,500 uninsured children in the county, of which about 300 are ineligible for Medi-Cal or Healthy Families. Gardner said the project also aims to enroll the remaining children in state or county insurance programs.
The county also is raising additional funds to pay children's health insurance premiums under the program. Mendocino County CHI expects to begin enrolling children in the program by May (Clark, Ukiah Daily Journal, 1/9).
