MILLENNIUMHEALTH: Spurned by drkoop.com, Company Courts Salud.com
One day after rescinding its bid for drkoop.com, Reston, Va.-based MillenniumHealth Communications Inc. today will announce its plans to acquire internet health information provider Salud.com, the Washington Post reports. Calling Salud "the drkoop of Latin America," MillenniumHealth officials said that the deal is expected to close within 15 days. MillenniumHealth Chair and CEO William Danielczyk said the company will invest $10 million over the next three years in Salud's operations. Danielczyk said, "This was an opportunity for our company to expand into one of the fastest-growing marketplaces in the world and ... become a leading health care portal in Latin and Central America." The merger will allow MillenniumHealth to provide health care news and information from its Health24News.com Web site to Latin American consumers logging on to Salud.com. The company also will provide news in Spanish from Salud.com to Spanish speakers in the United States (Garretson, 8/2).
