Mixon Named General Counsel for CalPERS
The Board of Administrators for CalPERS last week named Peter Mixon general counsel for the health system, a position that he has held on an interim basis for the past three months, the Sacramento Bee reports. As general counsel, Mixon will manage the CalPERS corporate governance program, which works with companies to establish corporate policies that allow shareholder input and encourage independent boards. Mixon also will serve as chief legal adviser to the CalPERS board, committees and executive and senior management staff in pension and trust law, tax law, health care and investments. "Mixon has served CalPERS extremely well over the past six years, and it was the judgment of the board that he is the obvious best choice for the general counsel position," William Crist, CalPERS board president, said (Kalb, Sacramento Bee, 11/21). Mixon succeeds Kayla Gillan, who left CalPERS in July to become the vice president of Independent Fiduciary Services in Washington, D.C. (California Healthline, 8/22).
