MODESTO: Alzheimer’s Care Center Planned
Portland, OR-based Regent Assisted Living Inc. "plans to build a $2.8 million residential care facility in Modesto for people with Alzheimer's disease," the Modesto Bee reports. The center is designed as a care option for those with early-stage Alzheimer's. Daniel Lamey of Regent Assisted Living said of the target market, "They may wander or be forgetful, but they aren't bedridden. In a nursing home, they aren't allowed as much freedom. Here, they can have some degree of freedom while in a safe environment." The 21,600-square-foot facility will house up to 48 residents in 24 two-bedroom units. The cost per month is estimated at "$2,500 to $2,700, including meals." The facility will employ 28 full-time staff members and even more part-time workers. The Modesto location is part of a plan "to operate assisted-living facilities in eight states by June" (Birch, 2/11).
