New Medical Facilities in the Works in Bay Area
The fast-growing population across the east San Francisco Bay Area has drawn interest from major medical providers interested in expanding operations, the Contra Costa Times reports. Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health and Children's Hospital are planning new medical facilities for the Pleasanton-Livermore-Dublin-San Ramon region.
Kaiser has purchased 58 acres of property in Dublin but has not confirmed whether the land will be used for a hospital.
However, Kaiser spokesperson Jim Caroompas said that the land acquisition is a "pretty good indication that our confidence is high that the area has the kind of growth that would justify a facility."
Sutter Health plans to develop a shared clinical laboratory in the Dublin-Pleasanton area, according to spokesperson Karen Garner. The facility will employ about 60 people.
Children's Hospital plans to expand its operations in the region with a $400 million, 150-bed hospital (Avalos, Contra Costa Times, 12/5).
