New Medical School Could Promote Diversity
A proposed medical school at the University of California-Riverside would work to address the low number of black and Latino physicians in California, Chancellor France Cordova said on Wednesday, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reports.
Changes to admissions for the UCR-UCLA Thomas Haider Program in Biological Sciences, which the UCR medical school would be based upon, have increased representation of some ethnic minorities.
Cordova said that UCR would submit its proposal for a medical school to the UC Board of Regents in May and that she expected the board to make a decision by the end of the year.
UC-Merced also is seeking a new medical school (Agha, Riverside Press-Enterprise, 4/20).
