New Web Site Allows Medicare Beneficiaries to Find Rx Drug Prices Online
Gov. Gray Davis (D) yesterday announced that Medicare beneficiaries in California can receive information about the cost of the 50 most requested prescription drugs in the state online at http://www.dhs.ca.gov/mcs/mcpd/MBB/contracting/sb393/index.htm. In 1999, Davis signed the Prescription Drug Discount Program for Medicare Recipients, which requires pharmacies participating in Medi-Cal to charge Medicare beneficiaries no more than the amount that Medi-Cal reimburses for the drug. The new Web site provides users with a calculator to determine the maximum price Medicare beneficiaries should pay for the 50 drugs. In addition, the site offers a full text version of the law and answers to frequently asked questions about the program (Office of the Governor release, 4/12).
