New York Insurer Becomes One of the First Health Plans Nationwide to Offer Spanish-Language Web Site
HIP Health Plan of New York Monday announced the launch of a Spanish-language version of the HIP Web site, making it "one of the first" health plans in the nation to provide the service, according to the American Association of Health Plans. The site provides information in Spanish and English to allow Spanish-speaking providers, employers and brokers to avoid the insurer's Spanish-language customer service telephone line and find most information online. For example, HIP members can search for primary care physicians and switch providers on the Web site. They also can fill prescriptions through HIP's online pharmacy service and read the HIP newsletter in Spanish. The new Web site also allows providers to confirm member eligibility, view claims status, provide referrals and receive medical preauthorizations. HIP provides health coverage to about 750,000 members in the New York City metropolitan area (HIP release, 3/4).
