Nursing Home Cited in Patient’s Death
The Department of Health Services issued its most severe citation to the La Jolla Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after finding poor care led to a patient's death, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The nursing home also was fined $94,000 because it did not follow a doctor's instructions for correctly administering the patient's medication.
A report that the state released on Tuesday said the nursing home did not conduct laboratory tests to monitor the patient, as instructed by the doctor and mandated by the center's policy. According to the report, the nursing home has enacted a plan of correction that includes educating staff about medication and blood monitoring.
Nursing home officials said they are investigating the case (Fitzsimons, San Diego Union-Tribune, 3/15).
