Nursing Programs Awarded Funds
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) on Thursday announced $2.4 million in state funding for 11 California Registered Nursing Education Programs. The funding will allow the programs to expand capacity and provide increased access to care.
The funding is part of $20 million included in the current budget for the Song-Brown program, which aims to increase the number of family practitioners, physicians assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses.
The program is part of Schwarzenegger's Nurse Education Initiative, which includes $90 million over five years to expand nursing programs at community colleges, new nursing programs at state universities and scholarship programs to encourage nurses to teach (Office of the Governor release, 6/15).
