Officials: Health Care Reform Bill Will Reach House Floor by July
On Wednesday, President Obama and Democratic lawmakers said they aim to push health care reform legislation through the House of Representatives by the end of July, Reuters reports.
Both the Democratic-led House and Senate hope to pass their respective bills before Congress' August recess.
This timetable would enable the two chambers to debate legislation in the fall and set the stage for Obama to sign a health care overhaul bill by the end of the year.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told Obama that health care legislation would reach the House floor before August.
Senate Finance Committee Chair Max Baucus (D-Mont.) also said he thought the July goal was feasible (Holland et al., Reuters, 5/14). This is part of the California Healthline Daily Edition, a summary of health policy coverage from major news organizations. Sign up for an email subscription.
