ONLINE PHARMACIES: CVS Pushes Products Via Web
Although the need for neighborhood pharmacies will never disappear, CVS Corp. believes it can "carve a profitable niche" by combining its Web business with its drugstore business, Reuters/Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The nation's largest drugstore operator began advertising its CVS.com Web site two weeks ago. Larry Zigerelli, head of CVS's online operations, said, "We see the Internet as a logical and natural extension of our overall convenience." He added that the site, which is seeing growth of 10% each week, will be profitable by 2002 (Munroe, 3/2).
