ORANGE COUNTY II: Foundation Awards Grants to Area Hospitals
The Orange County HealthCare Foundation announced that it will give $330,000 in grants to three area hospitals for community- based medical, dental and prenatal services. Part of the foundation's "Partners for Health Projects," the money will be awarded to programs in the Santa Ana and Anaheim neighborhoods to finance care access to low-income families and migrant workers. Such projects include money for a health van at the Delhi Center in Santa Ana and extended evening and weekend hours at an Anaheim maternity program. The foundation's endowment of $19 million was created last July through the sale of United Western Medical Centers to Tenet Healthcare Corp. The grants include matching or in-kind contributions from Newport Beach's Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and the county's St. Joseph Hospital and UC Irvine Medical Center (Los Angeles Times, 2/3).
