Oroville Hospital Workers May Join Union
Three Oroville Hospital departments with more than 500 employees on Friday voted on a measure to join the United Steelworkers of America, the Chico Enterprise-Record reports. If tallies show that a majority of employees voted to join the union, employees will elect officers and form a collective bargaining unit as part of the union's Health Care Workers Council. The three departments include clerical staff in the business office, licensed employees and technicians in the professional group and unlicensed administrative employees. Workers who support joining the union said they have not received a cost-of-living wage increase for eight to nine years, the Enterprise-Record reports. Oroville Hospital officials did not return phone calls to comment on the vote, according to the Enterprise-Record (Weston, Chico Enterprise-Record, 8/1).
