PacifiCare Names Frey New President and CEO of Company’s California Health Plan
PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. last Friday announced that it has named company official James Frey as president and CEO of PacifiCare of California, effective immediately. Frey will replace Chris Wing, who resigned to pursue other interests, as head of the company's largest health plan, which serves more than 2.1 million HMO and Secure Horizons Medicare+Choice members statewide. He will report to Brad Bowlus, executive vice president of PacifiCare Health Systems and president and CEO of PacifiCare Health Plans. PacifiCare hopes that the move will help "consolidate core functions" between PacifiCare Health Systems and PacifiCare of California. PacifiCare also plans to move the company's senior management team and corporate headquarters from Santa Ana to Cypress later this year. Frey, who joined PacifiCare in 1997, has served as the company's senior vice president of branding and strategic initiatives and as senior vice president of operations for PacifiCare Health Plans. Bowlus said, "James' depth of experience throughout PacifiCare and his strategic vision and product knowledge position PacifiCare to grow our consumer-focused commercial products. ... I look forward to working with James, along with California's strong management team, as we continue to grow our commercial business, and to drive our product leadership strategy in the California market" (PacifiCare release, 3/15).
