PBS Special Examines Family Caregiving
PBS tonight will aire a two-hour documentary examining the practice of family caregiving. "And Thou Shalt Honor" profiles family caregivers, their patients and professional health care providers who "struggle with an underfunded and often misunderstood system." The program's Web site includes information on selected show topics, including long-term care, Alzheimer's disease, Eden nursing homes, geriatric care management, volunteerism and workplace caregiving. In addition, the site offers video clips from the program, a discussion forum and resource links to databases, national organizations and governmental agencies providing disease-specific and end-of-life information. Check local listings for show times (PBS release, 9/30). KVIE, the Central Valley's public television station, also will hold a two-part complementary educational series, "And Thou Shalt Honor: Sacramento's Experience," on Oct. 16 and 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arden-Dimick Library in Sacramento, in cooperation with the California Coalition for Compassionate Care and the Sacramento Public Library. The Compassionate Care Alliance for the Greater Sacramento Area will sponsor the series (KVIE release, 9/27).
