SB 1661 by Sen. Dave Cox (R-Roseville) was amended to authorize the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development to revoke an extension for a hospital to complete seismic safety retrofits if the hospital abandons or suspends construction of its own accord (Bill text, 8/7). The measure also was amended to require the OSHPD to submit seismic upgrade reports from hospital owners to the Legislature by May 1 and would require the office to make the reports and other information available on its Web site. The legislation would allow additional extensions of up to two years for hospitals to complete retrofits if construction has already begun and the hospital has made a reasonable effort to meet the deadline (Bill text, 8/9). The bill was rereferred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee (Bill status, 8/9).
