Prescription Drugs
SB 1702 by Senate Pro Tempore Don Perata (D-Oakland) was amended to require the Department of Health Services to pursue discounts on prescription drugs and other rebates from pharmaceutical firms. State residents who meet eligibility requirements would be eligible to participate in the Discount Prescription Drug Program, which the bill would create. Under the bill, any pharmaceutical firm or licensed pharmacy could participate in the program. A Senate Health Committee hearing was scheduled for April 26.
