Prescription Drugs
AB 2911 by Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez (D-Los Angeles) on May 2 was amended to change the funding structure of a proposed California Discount Prescription Drug Program so that only a simple majority approval is needed to approve the legislation. Under the bill, the Department of Health Services would be required to negotiate discounts with drug manufacturers and pursue rebates for drugs in each therapeutic category. Any licensed pharmacy or drug manufacturer would be able to participate in the program. The bill would require the department to establish rules of eligibility and create a fund for the drug discount program. The bill was re-referred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee (StateNet, Subscription required).
