Prescription Drugs
The Senate Health Committee approved AB 71 by Assembly member Wilma Chan (D-Oakland) (StateNet, Subscription required). The legislation requests that the University of California determine classes of prescription drugs that are advertised to consumers, marketed to physicians or both, and develop a Web site to provide information on the safety and effectiveness of those drugs. The bill was amended to require the Department of Health Services, in consultation with UC, to establish a fee for prescription drug manufacturers that would fund the program (Bill text, 6/22). The bill was passed to the Senate Appropriations Committee (StateNet, Subscription required).
