Proposed Bans on Trans Fats Move to Legislature
KQED's "Forum" on Tuesday featured a segment on legislation to ban trans fats (Krasny, "Forum," KQED, 3/6).
The Assembly Health Committee on Tuesday will consider legislation (AB 97) by Assembly member Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) that would ban the use of trans fats in oils, margarine and shortening at food facilities.
The Assembly Education Committee on Wednesday will consider a pair of measures (AB 90 and AB 86) seeking to ban trans fats in food served in California schools (California Healthline, 3/5).
The segment includes comments from:
- Phyllis Bramson-Paul, director of the nutrition services division at the California Department of Education;
- Patricia Crawford, co-director of the Center for Weight and Health and a nutrition specialist at the Department of Nutritional Science and Toxicology at UC-Berkeley;
