Public Financing Measure Could Result in Health Care Initiative
Proposition 89, a measure on the November ballot that would create a publicly financed political campaign system by taxing corporations and financial institutions, "is sponsored by the California Nurses Association, a nonprofit union that has made clear it wants to put an initiative on a future ballot to mandate universal health care in California," a Fresno Bee editorial states.
If the measure passes, "the CNA (or other similar nonprofits) could raise unlimited funds to get a ballot initiative passed while their opponents would be at a disadvantage," according to the Bee.
The Bee recommends a "no" vote on the measure (Fresno Bee, 10/9).
