Public Health
Originally, AB 2569 by Assembly member Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles) would have created a program to provide access to breast and cervical cancer screenings to low-income and uninsured women. The measure was amended to authorize health plans to file on-site medical surveys electronically (Bill text, 4/15). The bill is before the Assembly Appropriations Committee (Bill text, 4/15).
A bill (SB 1058) by Sen. Elaine Alquist (D-Santa Clara) was amended to require hospitals to implement procedures for screening, preventing and reporting hospital-acquired infections. The bill also would require laboratories to report any incidence of hospital-acquired infections to the state Department of Public Health within five working days (Bill text, 4/15). This bill was re-referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee (Bill text, 4/15).
